HUNTINGTON BEACH — An earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale occurred Wednesday night off of Huntington Beach, a Caltech seismological lab spokesman said.
However, the tremors apparently went unnoticed by most of the residents in the area, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department, which received no calls.
The quake occurred beneath the ocean three miles south of Huntington Beach at 9:22 p.m., Caltech spokesman Robert Finn said.
“This earthquake is not related to any other earthquake,” he said. “It was not an aftershock.”
There were no reports of damage.
