A 20-year-old woman who was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon escaped while she was on a supervised shopping trip, authorities said Saturday.
Monica Santana was shopping in the Price Club in Oxnard with an officer when she disappeared about 7:30 p.m., said Allison Zajac, spokeswoman for the California Youth Authority.
Santana was scheduled to be paroled in January, 1992, and was shopping to get ready for her release, Zajac said.
Twenty-six officers searched for Santana in the area of the Ventura Freeway and Del Norte Boulevard on Friday, Zajac said.
Santana was committed to the CYA’s Ventura School in Camarillo in August, 1986, by the Santa Barbara Juvenile Court in the assault, in which she had intentionally disfigured her victim.
