No One Shows Up for Touted Anti-Gay Event

Campus police reported that no one showed up at Northridge Park over the weekend for what had been touted as a night of “gay-bashing” in a series of anonymously distributed flyers that drew expressions of outrage from Mayor Tom Bradley and others.
“It was basically a big nothing,” said Officer Dana Archer of the Cal State Northridge police. “There was nobody there. There were more police than anyone else.”
Campus and gay activists had earlier discovered several flyers on campus offering free baseball bats for a “gay bashing and clubbing” night Saturday. But no one showed up Saturday evening.
The no-show left campus officials to speculate whether widespread condemnation of the flyers scared off the people responsible or whether the event was a hoax.
