CBS will make about $40 million extra because Minnesota and Atlanta needed seven games to decide the title. “The extra games mean anywhere from $35 million to $45 million extra,” said CBS Sports president Neal Pilson.
The exact amount CBS will earn from the Series depends on the rates of Game 7 ads. Since no one knew the game would exist, it wasn’t sold early. “We were selling Game 7 last week,” Pilson said.
The overnight ratings from Game 6 indicate the country is calling the Series a hit. The game got a 24.2 overnight rating and a 41 share on Saturday night, winning in prime time with a 21.0 rating to NBC’s 10.9, ABC’s 6.5 and Fox’s 6.0.
