Airport Collision

In response to “Tower to Feds: We Need Your Help,” editorial, Oct. 18:
How can two planes on the same runway be directed to crash into each other? This kind of carelessness is not only extremely embarrassing but very scary. The ground radar system frequently breaks down, management being so irresponsible to not even move light fixtures to reduce glare and the Federal Aviation Administration not correcting problems and reviewing tower operations were the best excuses.
If even these basic duties could not be carried out, we’re lucky there were only two planes involved in this careless mishap and not 10. I just hope that it doesn’t take another disastrous incident to focus attention on the operations of Los Angeles International Airport!
