COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : USC : Cal’s Comments Upset Washington’s Hobert

USC Coach Larry Smith wasn’t the only one upset by the comments made by California players before and after the Trojans’ 52-30 loss to Cal Saturday in Berkeley.
Washington quarterback Billy Joe Hobert, who will lead the No. 2-ranked Huskies against USC Saturday at the Coliseum, said he would have liked to see the Trojans beat the Golden Bears “because Cal showed little respect for SC, and I was hoping Cal (players) would have something shoved down their throat because of some of the things they said.
“SC has a lot of great athletes and they’re competitors. They’re trying just as hard as anybody else in the Pac-10. Nobody has the right to tell them that they shouldn’t respect themselves.”
Trojan linebacker Kurt Barber will probably sit out the rest of the season after injuring his left knee against Cal, Smith said.
