Montclair Prep 42, Village Christian 6--Running back Eliel Swinton rushed for 273 yards in 17 carries and scored on runs of 66, 80 and 56 yards as the Mounties (7-1, 4-0) clinched at least a share of the league title at Pierce College.
Swinton opened the scoring on the game’s second play with a 66-yard burst off tackle and quarterback Mike Lincavage hit Kim Atkins with a 25-yard touchdown pass for a 14-0 lead.
After Village Christian closed the margin to 14-6 on a 22-yard pass from David Treanor to Mike Spielman, Atkins returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown and a 21-6 halftime advantage.
Montclair Prep, which had scored 155 points in its previous three games, exploded for 21 points in the first five minutes of the third quarter to put away the Crusaders (3-5-1, 2-2).
Swinton scored on the Mounties’ first two plays of the second half and Lincavage, who completed seven of 13 passes for 114 yards, completed the scoring with a 34-yard pass to Kevin Bendaw. The Mounties rolled up 420 yards in total offense.
