FULLERTON — Marion Womack rushed for 122 yards in 20 carries as Sunny Hills defeated Fullerton, 24-15, in a Freeway League game Friday night at Fullerton District Stadium.
The victory sends the defending league champion Lancers (6-4, 4-1) into the Southern Section Division VI playoffs on a high note.
After Fullerton (1-8-1, 0-5) took an early lead, Jeff Willis scored two touchdowns and gained 80 yards in 14 carries for Sunny Hills, and Brent Howes kicked a 21-yard field goal and two extra points in a 24-0 run.
“Fullerton’s first drive woke us up, I think,” Sunny Hills Coach Tim Devaney said. “We made some good defensive adjustments and we were able to overcome it.”
The Indians opened the game with a nine-play, 74-yard drive capped by David Chacon’s two-yard run with 7:51 left in the first quarter. From there, however, it was all Sunny Hills.
“It sure looked like we came out flat,” Devaney said. “I had to give the guys some adrenaline shots at halftime.”
Fullerton closed the scoring with three seconds remaining on a nine-yard pass from Dan Chacon to Ryan Tuller.
