THORNDYKE BAY, Wash. — A young deer born when an automobile struck her mother and expelled the fawn from the womb has been killed by a poacher’s bullet, its caretaker said.
Faline--dubbed “the miracle fawn” by caretaker Billie Sizemore--was shot with a .22-caliber rifle on Oct. 31, five months after her traumatic birth on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. Her body had been skinned. State law prohibits shooting does.
“She’d come right up to you. She’d push you with her nose,” said Sizemore. “She probably went right up to whoever shot her.”
