Three Lured to Overpasses

In unrelated but eerily similar incidents, three people mounted San Diego County highway overpasses Sunday and attempted to jump, testing the persuasive powers of authorities.
At 2:29 p.m., a man jumped onto southbound Interstate 5 just north of 10th Avenue, according to a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. The man, who was not identified, landed in the roadway and was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.
About six hours later in El Cajon, another man attempted to jump off eastbound Interstate 8 where it crosses 2nd Street. Law enforcement officers talked him out of it, however, and the man was being held for observation Sunday night.
About 9 p.m., a third man was threatening to jump off I-805 onto I-8. Late Sunday, law enforcement officers were still continuing to attempt to persuade him to give himself up, the spokeswoman said.
