Two San Diego State University varsity softball players were killed in a one-car accident early Sunday in Rosarito Beach in Baja California, authorities said Monday.
Although details were sketchy, Bill Robinson, spokesman for the San Diego Police Department, confirmed that the accident, involving a car with three women in it, occurred about 3:45 a.m. Sunday in Mexico.
Sue Campbell, 21, a senior all-Western Athletic Conference catcher, and Karin Cartier, 21, a junior transfer from Santa Rosa Community College, were killed in the crash.
The third woman in the car, Keri Ellman, an SDSU sophomore from Canoga Park, who was not on the softball team, was taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Diego and released, according to SDSU softball Coach Linda Spradley.
No other details were available.
The softball team met with counselors Monday.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
