The speeding car of a hit-and-run motorist struck and killed a 52-year-old South San Diego bicyclist in National City shortly after midnight on Thursday, severing his right leg and hurling him 160 feet, authorities said.
Donald Carlisle of Nestor died about an hour after the accident in the 2100 block of National City Boulevard. Witnesses said a small sedan, traveling south at about 60 m.p.h., struck Carlisle’s bicycle from the rear, then sped away without stopping.
National City police asked anyone having information about the car or driver to notify Sgt. Steve Murray at 336-4411.
Police had no description of the driver. The car was similar to a Nissan or a Toyota and variously described by witnesses as bronze, champagne or orange in color. The accident would have caused considerable damage to the front of the car, police said.
