NO HALO: The Angels, who were trying to obtain Bobby Bonilla, were spurned Monday when the prized free agent agreed to play for his hometown New York Mets (C1). . . . Following frantic last-minute bidding, Bonilla became baseball’s highest-paid player by signing a five-year contract with the Mets for an estimated $29 million. The Angels wanted Bonilla to play right field and hit cleanup but will now set their sights on Kansas City’s Danny Tartabull.
