CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Governor Orders Probe of I-5 Crash
- Share via
Gov. Pete Wilson ordered an investigation into the massive chain-reaction crash on Interstate 5 that killed 17 people in a post-Thanksgiving dust storm. Wilson also ordered into effect a series of safety measures to protect motorists in dust storms. The measures include installing message signs to alert motorists along I-5 to possible high wind conditions and increasing traffic-safety patrols during peak hours. The Highway Patrol may also begin traffic pacing and caravans on I-5 when there are windy or dusty conditions--similar to the procedures the CHP follows during heavy fog. The crash is also under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
