OUTLOOK
Carlson, starting his fifth season at El Dorado, faces a major rebuilding project without a lot of proven varsity talent. The Golden Hawks don’t have a returning starter, and only four players have varsity experience, but given a 7-17 record last season maybe that’s a good thing. Now, here’s the good news: Carlson figures the Hawks will be a good shooting team and that the team’s height with give it a strong inside game. Plus, eight newcomers led the junior varsity to a 19-4 record and the league championship last season. Carlson is hoping steady improvement will push the Hawks into the league’s upper division. It will have to be fairly drastic, however. As it stands now, El Dorado doesn’t figure to have the talent to challenge Los Alamitos or Esperanza for the league title. Of the returning players, Johnson was the top scorer, averaging 5.9 points. Selway, who is the starting quarterback on the football team, averaged 3.2 points. D’Arc (6-7) and Clossen (6-6) give the Hawks the best height in the league, however.
