Vardell to Play in Shrine Game

Tommy Vardell, the former Granite Hills High standout who rushed for 1,084 yards and 20 touchdowns in helping Stanford to an 8-3 record, was among 36 players named Wednesday to the West squad for the 67th Annual East-West Shrine Game, to be held Jan. 19 at Stanford Stadium.

San Diego’s Bill Nagler advanced to the Senior Grand Prix Championship men’s 70 division semifinals at Rancho Bernardo Inn with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Bob Reese of Granada Hills. Nagler will play Alex Swetka of Mountain View in today’s semifinals.
