Arcadia : City Eases Curbs on Water
Beginning Jan. 1, water customers will no longer pay fines for using more water than allotted under the city’s conservation program.
In February, the City Council passed a mandatory program, Phase 2, that included a 10% reduction in consumption compared with average usage from 1987 through 1989. Customers, however, cut back 22%.
On Tuesday, the City Council rescinded Phase 2 and implemented Phase 1, which bans hosing down driveways and sidewalks and prohibits watering of lawns between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
On Jan. 7, the council will consider allowing the Arcadia Water and Public Works Department to devise a system to award conservation-minded customers with billing credits.
