The problem in the Dinosaur Kingdom sounds all too familiar: Trash is piling up as high as mountaintops.

Enter Kid Dinosaur to try to solve the predicament.

“Kid Dinosaur” is a children’s play with the dual themes of cleaning up the environment and building self-esteem.

Written and directed by Jim Houle of Los Angeles, the musical opened in Venice in May, 1990, and ran there for six months. Then it moved to a theater in Van Nuys for eight months. Since mid-November, the play has been in Pasadena for a limited showing, on Saturdays at the 64-seat Pasadena TheatreCo., 1406 N. Lake Ave.

The last Pasadena performance will be Saturday.

A Los Angeles Times reviewer who attended a Van Nuys performance called it a “talky musical” and said “the show sports some funny dialogue delivered with comic zeal.”

What distinguishes his production, Houle said, is that it “is a kind of theater that really doesn’t exist anywhere else: children’s theater that adults enjoy too.”

The story idea came in response, Houle said, to asking himself “if I were a kid, what would I want to hear about today?”
