CYPRESS — Allison Arredondo, Gahr’s 6-foot-2 center, scored 10 of her 20 points in the first quarter to lead Gahr to a 78-40 victory over Edison in the finals of the Cypress girls’ basketball tournament Friday.
Gahr took a 22-7 lead after the first quarter and led, 35-14, at halftime. Melanie Iwamasa scored 12 points and also had six rebounds to lead Edison (3-3).
Katie Colclough and Leila Ryan each scored seven points for Edison, which finished playing in its only tournament for the season.
Despite the loss, Edison Coach Phil Abraham was upbeat.
“It was a good showing for us, and this is the only tournament we’re playing in before Sunset League play starts,” Abraham said. “The players are adapting to their new roles and hopefully we’ll be peaking when league play rolls around.
