Citing philosophical differences with school administration and a lack of staffed assistant coaches, San Dieguito High football Coach Marty Albert announced his resignation. Albert, whose Mustang teams went 2-17-1 in two seasons, including a 1-8-1 finish in 1991, said he didn’t think he could turn the program around under the current circumstances.

“Sitting down with the administration to talk about things I thought were necessary for the program, we didn’t exactly agree,” said Albert, who spent 18 years as a head coach at other schools. “I found it difficult getting support for all of the things you need to make it a go here.”

Albert, who was a coach for 15 years in Strongsville, Ohio, and seven years in Los Alamos, N.M., said he had only one staffed assistant coach and couldn’t find anyone else within the system.

“I’m sad that I’m not going to be involved again,” Albert said. “But it’s been a little frustrating.”
