One Killed, One Injured in Blaze at Apartment

A woman died and another was severely injured in a fire that caused $15,000 damage to their Los Angeles apartment early Monday, officials said.
Desree Lott, 77, was in critical condition and on life-support systems at California Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Lisa Fitch. The dead woman was not immediately identified. Firefighters were dispatched to the Halldale Avenue apartment just before 2 a.m. and extinguished the flames about 2:26 a.m.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined, said Fire Department spokesman Pat Marek.
