When Tennessee plays Penn State on New Year’s Day, Volunteer Coach Johnny Majors will be returning to the Phoenix area for the Fiesta Bowl for the first time since his Pittsburgh team was beaten, 28-7, by Arizona State in 1973.
“The people were great, but they’re Arizona State fans,” he joked. “They treated us great all week, but then on Saturday they said, ‘We’re going to kick your (expletive) tonight,’ so I found out that hospitality only went so far in Arizona. Hopefully, they’ll stick with us all week this time.”
