Saddleback’s Beacham Scores Tennis Victory

FULLERTON — Cory Beacham of Saddleback College won two matches Thursday, moving closer to qualifying for the men’s singles main draw of the 19th Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Assn. Holiday Tennis Classic at Sunny Hills Racquet Club.

Beacham ousted Osvaldo Padilla of Southeast Missouri, 6-1, 6-1, and John Nygren of Fullerton College, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

Jerry Miyamoto, Rajan Sagar and Paul Tracey, all freshmen at UC Irvine, and David DiMarino of Golden West College, also advanced to the third round of qualifying. Each posted second-round victories after first-round byes. Today’s winners will earn spots in the 32-player main draw, which begins Saturday.

In a first-round men’s doubles match, Brett Hansen-Dent and Jon Parker of UCI, seeded fourth, defeated Beacham and Steve Sabo, 6-1, 6-1.
