LONDON : A Commons Hot Seat
The two sons of the late publisher Robert Maxwell--Ian, 35, and Kevin, 32--are to appear before a committee of the House of Commons next Monday to answer questions about their role in the collapsed Maxwell business empire.
Members of Parliament want to know about the mysterious transfer of millions of dollars from Maxwell’s publicly owned corporation pension funds into his private companies. (Maxwell died at sea in November.)
The brothers, directors of Maxwell companies including the New York Daily News, may choose not to answer questions on grounds of self-incrimination. It would be up to Parliament members to decide whether they would be legally justified in doing so.
