El Toro volleyball player Jaime Smith, a Times’ All-County first-team selection, said Tuesday she has orally committed to play at Wisconsin next season.
Smith, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter, chose Wisconsin over Texas A&M;, New Mexico and Princeton. She plans to study business.
Smith, an All-South Coast League selection, led the Chargers to their first State Division I championship.
Also announcing her college commitment was Corona del Mar’s Kristin Spataro, who chose Princeton over Duke and Notre Dame. Spataro and Smith plan to sign Feb. 5, the first day a volleyball player can sign a letter of intent.
Spataro, a 5-6 setter, sat out the 1991 season while recovering from reconstructive knee surgery. She said she is “back to 100%” and is playing for her club team, Orange County Volleyball.
