Times to Publish Eastern Edition: The Los Angeles Times announced that on Jan. 28 it will begin publishing a slimmed-down edition for distribution in Washington and New York City. The new edition, to be printed in Manassas, Va., is designed to save money and improve distribution. The Washington edition will have a circulation of 2,000 Monday through Friday and will replace copies of an early edition now printed in Los Angeles and flown to the East Coast nightly. The new edition will have two 12-page sections of news taken from The Times and on Tuesdays will also carry the World Report section. It will be edited and formatted in Los Angeles, with pages transmitted to Virginia by satellite.
