Culver City : Celebration for Filmmaker

Veteran filmmaker Hal Roach will be honored Saturday with a 100th birthday party that will also launch a year of celebration marking the 75th anniversary of Culver City’s incorporation.
The public is invited to attend the event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the Thalburg Building at Sony Pictures Studios, 10202 W. Washington Blvd.
Roach, whose 100th birthday is Tuesday, is honorary chairman of the city’s 75th anniversary steering committee. He will speak briefly at Saturday’s party.
Roach owned and operated Hal Roach Studios in Culver City from 1919 to 1963. Among other things, the studio produced the “Our Gang” and “Laurel and Hardy” film series.
