An elderly woman suffered a fractured kneecap, scrapes and cuts after a 200-pound man grabbed her on the Pierpont Inn stairway and stole her purse, Ventura police said Tuesday.
Margaret Knerr, 70, of Grover City and her husband were climbing the stairs of the Sanjon Road hotel at 7:30 p.m. Monday when the thief attacked her from behind, causing her to fall to the bottom of the stairs, police said.
The robber was described as 30 to 40 years old, with short brown hair and was wearing a light-colored sweater and tan slacks, police said.
He was last seen running across the hotel grounds with the purse, which contained an undetermined amount of money, police said.
