Ruby R. Levitt; Hollywood Set Designer

Ruby R. Levitt, set designer whose work was frequently nominated for Academy Awards, has died at the age of 84.
Miss Levitt died Saturday at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Woodland Hills.
Her Oscar-nominated work included sets in the films “Smashup,” “Pillow Talk,” “Chinatown,” “The Sound of Music,” and “The Andromeda Strain.”
Educated at the Pratt Art Institute in New York, Miss Levitt began her career in the 1940s at Universal Studios.
Her first set design was for “I Can’t Help Singing” starring Deanna Durbin. She also designed sets for the “Ma and Pa Kettle” series of films, for “A Star Is Born,” and for the television series “The Addams Family.”
