BED COUNT: County supervisors who approved the Theo Lacy Jail expansion Tuesday (A1) were surprised to hear from Sheriff Brad Gates that among the inmates housed in county jails there are usually between 100 and 200 illegal immigrants awaiting extradition. And with overcrowding getting worse, the supervisors weren’t happy about it. . . . “We are paying the bill for federal detainees,” said Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez. “That’s one or two hundred beds I would like to have.”
