U.N. Seeks Funds to Fight Hunger, Disease in Africa

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The United Nations on Wednesday urged international donors to respond to its request for over $620 million to help millions of people stricken by hunger and disease in the Horn of Africa.
“The United Nations estimates that some 23 million people in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti and Kenya, whose lives are at risk because of starvation and disease, are in need of emergency assistance,” U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali said in a statement.
