CBS Completes Midwest Purchase: CBS Inc. said it completed the purchase of most of the assets of Midwest Communications Inc., including two television stations, two radio stations and a regional sports cable channel. The cost of the deal was $178.6 million, down from the $200 million that was mentioned when the deal was announced last summer. CBS said the difference resulted from Midwest’s decision to keep certain assets, cash and accounts receivable rather than transfer them to the network. The acquisition of WCCO-TV in Minneapolis and WFRV-TV in Green Bay, Wis., boosts the number of TV stations that CBS owns to seven. They reach 22.2% of the national television audience.
