Ross scored 51 points in two games and displayed what assistant coach Mike Jackson calls “a big-time jump shot,” to lead the Lancers back into contention in the Moore League. He had 27 points as the Lancers defeated Millikan, 63-38, then had 24 points as Lakewood handed Jordan its first league loss, 73-49. The two victories improved Lakewood’s league record to 4-2, one game back of Jordan and Wilson, both 5-1.
Other top performers:
* Brandon Titus, a 6-foot-5 guard from Gahr High in Cerritos, tallied 78 points in three games. He led the Gladiators with 24 points in a 62-48 victory over Paramount, then scored 22 points as the Gladiators pounded Warren, 72-43. Titus then led all scorers with 32 points in a losing effort against Downey, which upset Gahr, 84-83, in triple overtime.
* Chris Boyd, Paramount center, scored 21 points in a 62-48 loss to Gahr, then scored 23 points while leading his Pirates to a 50-48 upset over Downey. He also added 15 points as his team was beaten by San Gabriel Valley League favorite Lynwood, 66-40.
