Loan Guarantees to Israel

All U.S. foreign aid is conditioned and closely monitored except aid to Israel. I was hoping that you’ll go beyond calling for attaching conditions to aid to Israel and call for a debate on the merit of this aid, especially at this time.
Our resources are not infinite. Ask any unemployed American and there will be no argument that with the current recession and the hard times we’re going through we could use some aid ourselves. So, the question then is: What’s the wisdom behind building homes in the West Bank when our people--in Los Angeles and other places--go homeless?
You state that the Shamir government must assume the political and moral responsibility for its decisions. Amen to that. But, so must the Bush government.
