COLLEGE IMPACTING: UC Irvine officials have come up with an amount they say shows the school’s impact on Orange County’s economy last year: $968 million. Chancellor Jack W. Peltason refers to it as “our partnership with the community.” . . . UCI employs 11,700 people, which makes it the largest employer in Irvine, and last year had 16,480 students. Officials based its total on estimated institutional, faculty, staff and student spending.
