San Dimas : School District Fights Back
The Bonita Unified School District, responding to a lawsuit filed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assn., said last week it had legal authority to form a recreational assessment district last summer.
The association sued Bonita in Los Angeles Superior Court in December for creating the district, claiming it violated Proposition 13 by imposing an illegal double tax on residents.
Bonita Supt. Ron Raya said the district, which serves San Dimas and La Verne, plans a “vigorous defense.”
Raya added that he hopes to consolidate Bonita’s defense with the Whittier Union High School District, which has also been sued by the Jarvis association.
