A SPECIAL REPORT: VALENTINE’S DAY
CAN’T BUY LOVE: Valentine’s Day, coming up Friday, will cost Romeos and Juliets a pretty penny more than it did in 1972. . . . Back then, the Broadway department store advertised a one-pound, heart-shaped box of chocolates for $2; now it’s $9.95. An abalone dinner, with coffee, went for $3.65 at the Arches restaurant in Newport Beach. Today, the same candle-lit dinner will run you $45--”and that does not include coffee,” adds owner Dan Marcheano.
