Saddleback Opens With Bangs, Knocks Off MiraCosta, 16-13

MISSION VIEJO — Four of the first five batters hit home runs as Saddleback College went on to defeat MiraCosta, 16-13, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday.
Tom Waterman, a converted pitcher, led off the first with a home run, and Bobby Garcia followed with another.
Nathan Malagon then doubled. Matt Maffey followed with a two-run home run and Mark Wells followed him with a solo home run.
Maffey had another home run and Wells added two doubles for Saddleback. The Gauchos led, 9-2, after three innings.
The teams combined for 26 hits, including eight home runs and six doubles.
