SIMI VALLEY : Hiker Finds Skull in Ravine Near Road
- Share via
A man hiking near a Simi Valley ravine stumbled upon a human skull near Tierra Rejada Road, Simi Valley police said Tuesday.
The hiker discovered the skull at dusk Monday and called authorities, but officials who searched the ravine late Monday were hampered by darkness.
They returned Tuesday and found skeletal remains, Lt. Don Austin said.
Investigators have yet to determine the identity of the body--believed to be that of a man--or the time and cause of death, Austin said.
Police did not identify the hiker, saying only that he is a Simi Valley resident.
Authorities found the skeleton in the ravine, not far from where the hiker found the skull, Austin said.
The coroner’s office and Simi Valley police detectives are continuing their investigations, Austin said.
