2 High School Students Honored for Service

Two San Gabriel High School seniors, Lucia Pujol and Cami Mesa, are among 24 California students recognized by the California Assn. of Peer Programs for service to their school and community.
Both are in their third year of peer counseling training at the school and both have served at the YWCA Rape Crisis Center in Pasadena and on the mental health unit at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center in San Gabriel.
The school’s peer counseling program works on the belief that students often find it easier to talk about problems with people their own age, said director Michael Donnelly.
Peer counselors, who work in the guidance office under adult supervision, often help newly arrived students adapt to school.
