PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Scores Early, Clinches First Title Since ’87

Scott Patton’s three-run homer keyed a 10-run first inning Friday as host Capistrano Valley defeated Mission Viejo, 15-1, giving the Cougars their first league title since 1987.
Chris Wallace was three for three, drove in three runs and scored twice and Brian Benner had a first-inning bases-empty homer for Capistrano Valley (19-4, 11-2).
In other South Coast League games:
El Toro 1, Dana Hills 0--Pete Robertson pitched a one-hitter and Chris Wiggins went two for two with a run scored to lead El Toro (11-10, 8-5) to its fourth consecutive victory.
In the Academy League:
Liberty Christian 10, St. Margaret’s 2--Ryan Dennee went three for three with two RBIs and freshman left-hander John Church (6-1) struck out eight and scattered six hits for the host Minutemen (14-2, 5-1).
Jeremy Anderson of Liberty Christian, had his streak of 86 consecutive stolen bases snapped when catcher Lupe Rodriguez threw him out at second. St. Margaret’s fell to 7-5, 4-3.
In the Arrowhead League:
Southern California Christian 11, Leffingwell 0--Scott Williams pitched a three-hitter, striking out nine, homered and drove in three runs for the visiting Flames (12-4, 6-2).
Calvary Chapel 2, Laverne Lutheran 1--Danny Fuller had 16 strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter for host Calvary Chapel.
In the Century League:
Canyon 4, Orange 2--Matt Kastelic’s no-out, two-run single off first baseman Pat Harris’ glove in the top of the seventh drove in the winning run for the visiting Comanches (15-7-1, 9-3-1).
Jarrod Kula pitched a six-hitter, striking out eight for Canyon.
El Modena 4, Villa Park 3 (8)--Anthony Viramontes scored the winning run on a wild pitch for the visiting Vanguards (9-10-2, 5-6-2).
Brian Hanson and Steve Krishfeld combined to throw six innings of no-hit baseball for El Modena, but Villa Park rallied in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score, combining two walks, two singles and a two-base error for three runs.
Santa Ana Valley 3, Foothill 0--Rick Crosby and Armando Cueva combined on a five-hitter and Cesar Correa stole home in the first inning for the host Falcons (11-12, 7-6).
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 5, Los Alamitos 2--Shawn Holcomb hit a two-run, second-inning homer and Tyson DowDell pitched a two-hitter for the visiting Hawks (18-5, 11-2).
Katella 3, Cypress 2 (8)--Matt Stochstill walked with the bases loaded to give the visiting Knights (15-8, 10-3) the victory. Stochstill also had a two-run double in the first. Shane Sowers and Danny Flanagan had base-empty home runs for Cypress (13-10-1, 7-6).
Esperanza 9, Loara 4--Pancho Ruiz had two hits with an RBI for Esperanza (5-7 in league), which scored four runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Aaron France hit a two-run home run in the second for Loara (7-16, 2-11).
In the Freeway League:
Troy 5, Buena Park 2--Rob Ruzzi and Brent Coon each stole home on delayed steals in the first inning for host Troy. Brent Lacher scored the third run in the inning on a throwing error by the catcher during the same play on which Coon stole home. In the second, Troy scored another run on a squeeze play. Lacher also hit a bases-empty home run in the sixth for the Warriors (8-13, 6-7). Buena Park is 11-9 and 8-5.
Fullerton 4, Sunny Hills 1 (8)--Jerry Martinez hit a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the eighth to win the game for Fullerton (15-7, 10-3). Ryan Golisano pitched a complete game and had four strikeouts for the Indians.
In Olympic League baseball:
Orange Lutheran 14, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Chris Campbell hit a grand slam in a 10-run second inning for the Lancers (17-4, 9-2). Capistrano Valley Christian is 1-17 and 1-9.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Beach 10, Century 1--Trigg Garner went two for two with four runs scored and two RBIs for Laguna Beach (9-13, 7-6).
Laguna Hills 12, Costa Mesa 3--Brett Nista was two for three and drove in two runs for the visiting Hawks (15-8, 9-3). Teammate Matt Stilson also had two RBIs.
Trabuco Hills 7, Estancia 1-- Arby Keener and Jason Teno each had two hits and an RBI for the Cougars (14-8, 11-2), who scored five times in the first. T.J. Alvarez added two hits for Estancia (5-7 in league play).
In Sea View League baseball:
Saddleback 5, Newport Harbor 0--Hector Blanchet struck out nine and improved to 4-0 for Saddleback (17-6, 10-3). Jimmy Fernandez went two for two with an RBI and James Garcia added two RBIs for the Roadrunners at home.
Tustin 5, Corona del Mar 3--The Tillers (16-6, 12-1) scored three runs in the sixth to take the lead. Tustin loaded the bases on a single to left by Mando Fonseca and bunt singles by Zach Elliott and Derek Baker. Nick Cantu singled in two runs and Baker then scored on a passed ball. Dave Angeloni had a two-run homer in the first for Corona del Mar.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 9, Santa Ana 0--Greg Hanoian went two for three and scored twice and Josh Warren was two for four and drove in two runs for the Chargers (9-11, 5-5).
