La Puente : Utility Lines to Be Buried

Despite concerns that construction will snarl traffic on city streets, the City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved La Puente’s fourth underground utility district.

The $575,000 project by Southern California Edison will put utility lines underground along Amar Road from Del Valle to Unruh avenues.

The underground equipment is expected to be in place by July, 1993, and removal of all power poles and overhead wires should be completed by July, 1994, city officials said.

Councilman Charles Storing expressed concerns that lane closures caused by the work will snarl traffic along Amar Road. He told city staff to pressure Edison officials to complete the job as soon as possible.

“We know it’s going to be a nightmare,” Storing said.
