Sour Notes: The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canada’s largest symphony, is expected to file for bankruptcy protection this morning in spite of its 101 members accepting a more than 15% cut in salary. The orchestra will post a $3.1-million ($3.7-million Canadian) deficit by its Aug. 31 year end. The recession took a further toll on Canada’s cultural community last week when the Art Gallery of Ontario closed its doors until 1993 and cut more than half of its 445 jobs. The gallery said it would make additional cuts in programming and services in the near future.
