Jiri Hrdina, 34, of the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, told the team he has retired. The Penguins’ coaching situation is also unresolved, even after preliminary discussions last week between General Manager Craig Patrick and Scotty Bowman, who served as interim coach last season.
“If it works out, we’d love to have Scotty back,” Patrick said.
