Southeast Area : Loser in Judicial Election Will Pay for Ballot Recount
- Share via
The losing candidate in last month’s tight Southeast Judicial District municipal court race has asked for a recount.
Attorney Salvador Alva, who lost to incumbent judge Frank Gafkowski by 94 votes, said he will pay charges of about $1,200 per day for the recount. Officials at the Los Angeles County registrar of voters said the recount will begin Monday and should take about four days.
In final results certified last week by the county registrar, Gafkowski defeated Alva, 7,062 to 6,968. Election officials declared 1,786 ballots invalid for various reasons.
