TWIN PEAKS, Calif. — A helicopter pilot was killed Saturday morning when his craft crashed into a condominium in this San Bernardino Mountains community, authorities said.
Richard Ferrell, 47, of Lake Arrowhead was flying alone at 8 a.m. when his Bell Jet Ranger struck the unoccupied dwelling in the Fernrock Estates area, according to Mary Stock of the California Division of Forestry dispatch center in San Bernardino. A real estate agent, Ferrell reportedly had gone to take aerial photographs of a listing.
Several condominium units were evacuated after fuel spilled from the wreckage. Damage to the building was estimated at $40,000. The helicopter was removed with a crane.
A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the crash is under investigation.
