POWAY : Student Charged in Fatal Collision

A 19-year-old UC San Diego student from Poway remained in downtown jail Sunday on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of a drug, the sheriff’s office reported. Jason Soule’s bail was set at $500,000 in connection with a July 6 collision, when Soule’s pickup truck crossed the center double yellow lines on California 67 in Poway and struck the car of Ramona resident Janet Driggers head-on, killing the 37-year-old woman.
A sheriff’s spokesman said that results of a blood test on Soule, taken while he was treated for his injuries at Palomar Medical Center, showed evidence of “some type of drug/narcotic in his system.”
Soule was arrested Friday and booked in the downtown jail.
