OXNARD : Redevelopment Panel Delays Hiring

Citing residents’ demands for public input, Oxnard’s Redevelopment Agency voted Tuesday to postpone a decision on hiring a consultant to guide the formation of new redevelopment areas.
City staff members had recommended paying $100,000 to Orange County-based Wedin Enterprises to start establishing redevelopment areas throughout Oxnard. Estimated costs for creating the new project areas could be more than $300,000 over the next few years, staff members said, but could generate more than $500 million in new tax revenue over the next 40 years.
Councilmen Manuel Lopez and Michael Plisky asked for postponement of the vote about hiring a consultant after residents requested more information about the redevelopment efforts. The agency is expected to reconsider the issue next month.
