ELMONT, N.Y. — Jockey Jose Santos is expected to recover fully after suffering a broken collarbone and broken right arm in a spill at Belmont Park on Monday.
Two other jockeys, John Velazquez and Dennis Carr, were involved in the spill but were not seriously injured.
The three horses--Santos’ In A Walk, Velazquez’s Private Flag and Carr’s Delray David--weren’t injured.
The spill took place during a mile-long allowance race on the Widener Turf Course when Santos’ horse, trying to slip through an opening on the inside, clipped heels and fell.
