Eleven people were injured Thursday in two accidents on the same stretch of the Foothill Freeway in Sunland in a period of less than two hours, the California Highway Patrol said.
Three people were injured when a car became trapped under a trailer-truck about 3:40 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just west of the Sunland Boulevard exit, CHP Officer Robert Smart said. The highway was closed for an hour while the wreckage was cleared, he said.
About 5 p.m., three cars were involved in a second accident in the same area, Smart said. Eight people injured in the accident were taken to nearby hospitals, said Jim Wells, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Information on the condition of the victims was unavailable.
